It sounds like the zenmigrate didn't run. Try running zenmigrate. I'll file a ticket to look into why that isn't getting run by default after an install/update. http://dev.zenoss.org/trac/ticket/2313 As for getting the appliance running on ESX, please compare the process you went to to the process I posted a while back.
