My /Devices class is laid out like the default, with all servers under
/Devices/Server/{Windows,Linux}, etc. I also use /Systems to group like
servers together. For example:
Code:
/Systems/Backup
/Systems/Blackboard/App Servers
/Systems/Blackboard/DB Servers
/Systems/Blackboard/VIP
/Systems/CARS
and so on.
I'd like to run a nagios-style command on all the servers in
"/Systems/Blackboard/App Servers" (and another command on /Systems/CARS, etc.).
I've searched the documentation and it seems that the only way to do this is
to create a new Device Template and add the command there, then bind that
template to each of the servers individually. Instead of having to create
these custom templates per device, I'd really like to be able to do the same
thing for a System organizer; ie., I want to run an event-generating command on
a System organizer (or Group organizer, I guess) instead of on a Device
sub-class. Is this possible? Or must I break out each system into its own
Device sub-class and specify a custom Device template?
I know that I could create /Devices/Server/Windows/Blackboard or whatever, but
I'm thinking more generally in that I could have all my web servers in a System
organizer and run some sort of generic check_http on all of them, regardless of
if the server is a Windows or Linux box and having to deal with the different
device templates. And...since each device can be in multiple Systems, there
could be the possibility that some of the web servers might be in a different
System organizer with another command run against them.
So all that to say: is it possible to run a command based on the System rather
than the Device sub-class? I welcome all suggestions!
