Tried a bunch of different things now --- the only thing that seemed to "solve" 
the problem was to delete both products (the one from IBM and the Unknown), and 
remodeling all the devices which had these products, and then moving the 
product to the correct manufacturer again.

I am convinced that this was the result of a "rare" bug.
