I can't recommend anything really, like 'elmerfud' says, but I can tell you about my current configuration. I currently have 269 machines in Zenoss and am monitoring about 7000 data points. The specs for my server are as follows:
Dell PowerEdge 1950 Dual Quad-Core 2.83GHz Intel Xeon Processors 8GB RAM (2) 73GB SAS drives in RAID1 for OS (2) 146GB SAS drives in RAID1 for /opt/zenoss This works very well for my environment.
