After applying the patch I can now see some windows event log entries but the 
dashboard still gets filled with exactly one error event for each windows 
server. These events reappear after I move them to history or clear the 
heartbeats.

The error messages changed slightly, however. They are either:

WMI connection failed <server_name>

or 

WMI connect error on <server_name>: [Errno 4] Interrupted system call
