I find that ZenWin and ZenEventLog crash often and don't always report 
truthfully.

su to the zenoss user
CD to $ZENHOME/bin
./zenoss status

See if ZenEventLog lists a PID for it.  restart any services that are not 
running.

Are your devices all joined to a windows AD?
