One last update - I have managed to get things under control now.  I had to 
blow away the .pickle file in the device directory for each affected device to 
get the snmp alerts to go away.  I also removed the .rrd files on each 
interface for the info that wasn't being collected to be tidy.  In the case of 
the vlan interfaces I mentioned earlier, this was ifInErrors_ifInErrors.rrd and 
ifOutErrors_ifOutErrors.rrd.  Presto!  No more blue snmp alerts after removing 
them and restarting zenoss.
