Let's be clear here, Zenoss monitors primarily by doing SNMP interrogations, 
the transport for which is TCP/IP. 

Without either an IP stack on the device to be monitored, or a working SNMP 
installation, you aren't likely to get very far. You'll need to be sure that 
you set a common read-only community name, public is the default but not 
necessarily the best move on public-facing systems ;-)

I suspect as well you need to create your network definitions within Zenoss 
before you can really discover the devices on your network, so go to networks, 
add a network range (i.e. 192.168.1.0), and then once done, just select the 
tick-box, and use the "discover devices" option in the drop-down..
