He changed it because he found those values to be more reliable over SNMP then 
over WMI.

Just keep it consistent if you choose a method to do it. I myself scrapped SNMP 
performance monitoring for windows, and chose instead to use the perfmon 
zenpack to query Windows built-in performance counters. I now get oodles of 
good information about exchange, SQL, active directory, and on and on and on.
