are you sure you are using the right host parameter when connecting to mysql 
from the command line? if you simply change 'localhost' to 'blah.domain.com', 
you need to make sure your MySQL permissions allow connections with that user 
to/from blah.domain.com. to me, it's just another of those annoying things in 
mysql :P
