I've seen similar, but not quite as final problems here. We do a lot of NFS mounts between linux servers here, and occasionally, one of the mounts gets hosed, with the usual problem of hanging any process that touches that filesystem until it is fixed. Since the SNMP daemons collect all kinds of filesystem information, they seem particularly sensitive to such situations.
