This is a first-step solution, but have you tried clearing your browser cache? 
The maps Javascript changed significantly not too long ago, and it's possible 
you're still using old stuff, which is much less efficient (and more buggy).  

Clear your browser cache, clear your geocode cache, and load the /Locations 
map. You should get a dialog saying it's doing the geocoding, if you're using 
the newer code.

If you've already seen that dialog, then the browser cache isn't a problem. You 
may have a corrupted network index; we'll try that next. Check the browser 
cache first, though.
