Well, you basically have to snmpwalk the devices or look at the MIBs of
the device to figure out what OIDs you want to monitor. If there's a
better way I haven't found it yet. There is a zenpack for 2.2.x that
allows you to walk the MIBs on the Zenoss server graphically,
alternatively, there are some paid products for Windows that also do
this. Unbrowse SNMP and Tembria are some good ones for looking at MIBs
and doing a quick query of the device.
As to creating templates, I'd look at the Zenoss Admin Guide and the
wiki, look at existing templates (create local copies if you're going to
play unless you like reinstalling) and even buy the Zenoss book (good
investment IMHO).
