Sorry, I didn't mean to confuse you - there isn't a snmpd.conf in Windows, I was just referring to the configuration on *nix's that I'd seen that limit things. I have monitored server 2003 successfully, though I did end up using the WMI zenpack + SNMP, and not the straight SNMP informant template Zenoss comes with out of the box. (I think I'd suggest Zenoss ought to replace the Informant template with the WMI zenpack for windows by default IMO...).

The end system does not require MIBs per se, it does need to support OIDs.

So, I'm not entirely sure what the issue is, but here's what I've done:
1. On Windows 2003, I installed SNMP Informant and set up admin account for WMI. 2. On Windows 2003, I changed the SNMP settings to not send authentication traps, and to allow SNMP from the Zenoss computer IP. 3. On Zenoss, I did add device, and pointed it at the Windows computer. I changed the device class to /Devices/Server/Windows. 3a. If doing WMI, I instead created /Devices/Server/Windows/NativePoll on Zenoss server, and bound the WMI template to that subclass. Then I added the device to that class. 4. In Zenoss /Devices/Server/Windows I set the zWinUser and zWinPassword to the admin account above.

That's it that I remember.

I'm not sure if I am restricting my SNMP data, I don't think there is a
snmpd.conf file I can check in windows 2003 right? Well, some strange things
about my system , is that I can't snmpwalk to system, it gives me:

Code:

SNMPv2-MIB::system = No Such Object avaliable on this agent at this OID

I installed snmp-informant and I can walk to that via:

Code:

snmpwalk -v 2c -c public 172.23.52.5 1.3.6.1.4.1.9600

Maybe I am missing Core Mibs? Maybe windows 2003 does not come with them?
Anyone with experience monitoring windows 2003?
