Couldn't you use a web based sound somehow? I know websites can make
noise in certain situations . . .

I'm using Ubuntu so...
1. install beep with apt-get install beep
2. add the zenoss user to the audio group which has permission to run beep with
usermod -a -G audio zenoss (I had to restart Zenoss for this to take effect)
3. try out some beeps until you find one of your liking (man beep)
- I used /usr/bin/beep -f 523.2 -r 2 -d 100 -l 100
4. create an Event Command from within Zenoss Event Manager->Commands (I called mine
"critical_beep")
5. add a filter for the Severity and make sure you set "Enabled" to true
I tested it by creating a low threshold on one of my nics and set the severity
to critical. Of course for this to really work you need to be near the zenoss
server and be able to hear the beep...
