Take a look at this URL:

http://www.pbandjelly.org/2008/02/zenoss-install-on-debian-etch/

Simple. And it works. It is more Debian-specific, but should apply as well to
Ubuntu.

I have wasted so much time on the stack installer for Debian not working,
etc... I always use this procedure now, and have no issues.

If you are upgrading:
  - Run zenbackup
  - Copy your backup, your .conf files, and your Zenpacks in a safe place
  - move the root directory of Zenoss to /old_version
  - Run the procedure (doing like a new install).
  - Try it...
  - If all is good:
     - Restore your conf files to $ZENHOME/etc/...
     - Restore your Zenpacks to $ZENHOME/Products/...
     - Run zenrestore

Have fun!
-Real.
