Cisco is having a developer contest for applications for their Application Extension Platform (AXP). AXP is a Linux-based integration environment from Cisco for integrating with their hardware via APIs and applications. My initial thought would be to integrate with their APIs and pull as much information out of the AXP APIs and device to model, monitor and capture events from the Cisco boxes associated with the AXP box. We don't have the schedule to work on it ourselves, but if anyone is interested the prizes are pretty good and we'd be more than happy to offer advice and assistance if your proposal is selected.
