I don't know what fixed the problem exactly. I was tailing the zenping log and saw that when a device fails to ping it takes 3 seconds for it to say so. Anyway I raised the time to 10 seconds and it seemed to work normally. That still does not explain the five mintue thing. But all is well now. Thanks for your help guys. Great feedback.
