I am using Zenoss Core 2.3.2 for monitoring around 80 Cisco boxes. Everything workes fine, except the following issue:
Today I started to poll another two devices for CPU load and memory status, only 4 OIDs per device, and following issues occured: Zenperfsnmp increased its Cycle time from ~6 sec to over 100 sec. This is due to a couple of devices that generate "SNMP agent down" events and time out when scanned and collected. I set detailed logging for zenperfsnmp, the log shows: Code: 2009-02-03 20:00:05 INFO zen.zenperfsnmp: total=88 good=82 bad=0 time=2.369795 2009-02-03 20:00:06 INFO zen.zenperfsnmp: total=88 good=83 bad=0 time=3.207553 2009-02-03 20:01:23 INFO zen.zenperfsnmp: total=88 good=83 bad=1 time=80.062746 2009-02-03 20:01:23 WARNING zen.zenperfsnmp: SNMP agent down 2009-02-03 20:01:23 INFO zen.zenperfsnmp: total=88 good=83 bad=2 time=80.063613 2009-02-03 20:01:23 WARNING zen.zenperfsnmp: SNMP agent down 2009-02-03 20:01:43 INFO zen.zenperfsnmp: total=88 good=83 bad=3 time=100.078640 2009-02-03 20:01:43 WARNING zen.zenperfsnmp: SNMP agent down 2009-02-03 20:02:43 INFO zen.zenperfsnmp: total=88 good=83 bad=4 time=160.129602 2009-02-03 20:02:43 WARNING zen.zenperfsnmp: SNMP agent down >From this I can read there is a problem, but I don't understand what it is and >why. Those devices with the "SNMP agent down" events: -there are no "bad OID" events for the devices -the devices had been polled correctly for weeks before this problem occured -they are reachable from the monitoring server (snmpwalk, v2c) -they are a mix of 2950/3560/3750 switches, nothing obvious in this way In general, -only 13k OIDs are being polled, making no heavy load for the server -going back removing the last steps does not stop this from happenning Any ideas why this is happenning and what I should do about it? I feel the problem lies in the "bad=x" part of the log but I can't fix it on my own. Thanks a lot for your help.
