Well, I have finally figured out why my installation was having problems. Perhaps this is happening with yours as well. When you restart zenoss as user zenoss with the zenoss stop command, it does not shut down mysql. In my case, everything started working correctly when I (as ROOT) did /etc/init.d/zenosss-stack stop This shut down mysql, as well as all the daemons. Once I did this and started it back up everything was working fine for me.
