hi again.. I managed to work this out now. The linux servers that i try to setup SNMP are are indeed setup correctly but they are only responding to snmp requests from the local host.
To fix this i had to edit the /etc/default/snmp file and remove the "127.0.0.1" entry in one of the lines. Once i done this.... SNMP requests can be received from other hosts!
