Yes, you have a good point there, James... I could modify the Nagios script that's running on the target systems.
I had been avoiding that option since I will need to do this for a handful of different files on several systems, and I was hoping to be able to fit all the customization into the command template for ease of deployment. But I suppose I could just add features to interpret the date values into the script, and then just use my own date substitutions in the command template.
