Thanks for your reply James, Indeed, I have not tried to play with Production State - this could be a workaround, even not a graceful one. I'll give it a try.
As for the cron job, if I get you right, it will also involve changing a property (though not at a device level, but at an upper device class, where some monitoring for those devices will be enabled on the morning and disabled on the evening). I still have to find out how to do that. I'd say that correct local manipulation of inherited Zenoss or custom-made properties is quite unclear to me, and I was not able to find any useful leads on this forum.
