1) yes, I set this on the command line, as the root user, prior to installing the RPM and prior to issuing the start command.
2) the md5sum matches up on my side: 55faa68baf12120eaeb0c4a2a79a8453 zenoss-2.4.0.el5.x86_64.rpm 3) I did follow the steps in the installation guide. For RHEL there isn't much there. Install the RPM and then run 'service zenoss start' for step 2, which is where it fails. I had mysql-server, net-snmp and net-snmp-utils already installed.
