To send/receive SNMP data, you must open port 161 on your firewall. 

Regarding ping, there is a thread here with a bit of information, but not a 
solution: http://forums.zenoss.com/viewtopic.php?t=8600&highlight=ping

Basically, the ICMP ping packet generated by an OS ping or a Zenoss ping 
command contains a different load than the packet generated by the zenping 
daemon. I've not verified this myself, but you can try using a sniffer to see 
if that is the case.

If it is, then you have to figure a way to configure your router to allow the 
zenping version of ping through the firewall.
