I don't think so. The patch should be applied to the stable if it is considered OK or should be kept in a topic branch if considered unstable. Pushing everything into a single "experimental" repo proved to be a problem in the past (rollbacked 4.0 version). As for this specific patch, it is pretty much self-contained and the functionality it adds is optional anyway, so there should be no problem in putting it to stable.
