And why do American children, living in the great U S of A need psychiatric drugs in the first place? Why are so many US children depressed? I think it's an indictment of the modern lifestyle when pre-schoolers are diagnosed as 'clinically depressed' and prescribed Prozac, Zoloft and even stronger drugs that have been shown to increase suicidal tendencies.
http://www.upliftprogram.com/depression_stats.html Pre-schoolers are the fastest-growing market for antidepressants. At least four percent of preschoolers -- over a million -- are clinically depressed. The rate of increase of depression among children is an astounding 23% p.a. One doesn't know whether to believe those figures since these corrupt researchers/academics could have deliberately inflated those numbers in order to be able to sell even more psychiatric drugs and psychiatric consulting services The medical fraud is quite blatant - nothing subtle here. Scientists, neical researchers etc. are now quite corrupt. The most common one is as described in the article about Harvard medics - they approve/recommend drugs after having secretly having received money from the drug companies. Same story with articles submitted to famous medical journals such as The Lancet - quite often the authors are being paid secretly via undisclosed 'consulting contracts' by the drug companies for writing favourable articles. On top of that, many articles have been ghost written by the drug companies, the academic researcher just puts his name on them and submits them for publication. The drug compaies like Pfizer, Glaxo etc. often do the human studies themselves and send the test results to the FDA which appoves drugs for human usage. It has been shown several times that the drug companies routinely hide tests that turned out to be unfavourable. So say the FDA sees 5 studies, 4 favourable, one neutral. But actually the drug company conducted 8 studies, the patient died in 3 of them so they just hid those 3 and sent in the other 5 to the FDA! This can't happen without the active collusion of the doctors/researchers who conducted the studies. In a very few cases there have been 'whistleblowers' (usually in the governement agencies, not in the drug companies whose employees are paid very well) who usually end up losing their jobs. Harvard medics 'concealed drug firm cash' http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/harvard-medics-concealed-drug-firm-cash-842792.html By Guy Adams Monday, 9 June 2008 Harvard University is at the centre of an academic and political scandal after three prominent members of its psychiatry department were accused of breaking conflict-of-interest rules by failing to declare millions of dollars in consulting fees from drugs manufacturers. An investigation by Senator Charles E Grassley uncovered evidence that Dr Joseph Biederman, a world-renowned child psychiatrist who helped fuel an explosion in the use of powerful antipsychotic medicines, neglected to tell university officials that he had earned at least $1.6m (£810,000) from pharmaceutical companies that make them. etc.
