Do I understand that if some institutions, which teach
Spoken English, or Functional English, or English
Enrichment or whatever they might call their English
courses, are prepared to admit Dalit students from
poor background, Ambedkar Scholarship program will be
prepared to pay their fees? If so, please let me know.
There are plenty of institutes around (in Delhi and
elsewhere) that teach English and plenty of students
too who would benefit a lot from such English
coaching. I can even advertise to get the names of
more such needy students and will be glad to have them
get in touch with an English institute of their choice
in their neighborhood where they can improve their
English abilities.
Regards,
Satinath

YO!!!!!
Ya we're somewhere involved in all this and what's
important is functional competence in English which
sadly enough, neither govt (which has decided to start
English classes from this year) nor the NGOs know what
to do with it. A curriculum needs to be developed that
can even be adapted or adopted by the govt. How's that
for a project idea? Developing a curriculum to impart
functional competence in English. More seriously, can
I converse in English with high school kids in
Amrabad, Mahabubnagar or any other dist in 3 yrs from
now? Its a qualitative indicator of the effectiveness
of this new pedagogy.
