Conference on reservation held Source: The Sangai Express Imphal, June 16: A one day State level conference on reservation was organised by the All India Confederation of SC/ST/OBC Organisations' Manipur Branch at Kakching today, conveyed a press release. The conference participated by over 200 delegates from different parts of the district was presided by former MLA Henry Paote. Speaking on the occasion, Henry refuted the allegation of anti-reservation forces that reservation policy has failed to provide any benefit to the weaker sections of the society. Speaking as a guest of honour, national secretary of SC/ST Confederations Madhu Chandra remarked that the practice of casteism is very much alive in the State. He asserted that Meiteis, Lois and scheduled tribes are bared from entering Hindu shrines in Manipur. Y Nilachandra, president of Representatives of Lois, Kakching stressed on the necessity of reservation for SC/ST and OBCs in the State. Confederation secretary Ksh Kennedy observed that 27 percent reservation in higher educational institutions envisaged by the UPA Government will benefit all Meitei communities included under OBC categories. He, however, rued that the people of Manipur are unable to take benefits from the UPA Government's 27 percent OBC Reservation. The one day conference concluded with the documentary film titled India Untouched, produced by K Stalin, Ahmedabad based on the practice of caste system in India, added the release.
