Dear donors and other other friends, As you all know Ambedkar Award was presented to Ms Baby Kamble, the author of “The Prisons We Broke” on her 81st birthday on Feb 2, 2009 at her native village Phalton. According to reports reached me, it was a grand success attended by hundreds of people including many dignitaries. I am still waiting for complete report on it. For now, please read the mail from Br Vidya Bhushan Rawat who represented FFEI despite his busy schedule. He had taken the responsibility and completed with precision and dignity. I am lucky to associate with such a personality. On behalf of FFEI, I thank Br Rawat. I uploaded a few photos for your information here. http://www.friends4education.org/scholarship/2007/07awards/07bkamble.htm I will write in detail when I get complete report on the fucntion. I thank all donors for this purpose, Br Rawat, Prof Maya Pandit, Dr Swati, our coordinators in India Mr Devdas and Rao for their assistance to complete this task with honor and dignity. Please write to me if you have questions. Thanks Benjamin ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is to inform you that the programme to honor Baby Tai Kamble went off very well. It was attended by nearly 400-500 people. The programme went off for nearly three-four hours. It was well received. Speakers were well versed with their subjects. There were academics, writers, activists all who facilitated Baby Tai Kamble. Maya Pandit was there so were other luminaries. Swati will send u the photographs and a summary of the programme soon. I have spoken to her about the same. I have also taken photographs and will send them to you as soon as possible. I will also write a summary of the programme soon. As do not know many names and the programme was essentially in marathi I can not really make a summary. There were media people who reported. Our banner was there and the citation was read there. Every body appreciated the efforts u have been making. I informed them how you are trying your best to help the Dalit students, and the community people in India. It is a mission for you, I informed them. I said, I am just a messanger to the work that you have undertaken. Since it is a small town, I think if they try only then it will be published in the media from Pune. I have talked to friends here and hope they will do the needful.. I opened the cheque and gave to Baby Tai. I have taken all the photogrpahs inclding those of cheque and the citation things, our banners.. will send them soon. regards, Vidya I will leave tomorrow morning. I will try to get baby Tai's house number so that u can speak t her. -- Vidya Bhushan Rawat Visit my blog at www.manukhsi.blogspot.com For information on the issues, movements and priorities of Scavenger community in India please log on to www.swachchakar.blogspot.com Contribute your article on freedom, humanism and human rights to www.manuski.com For information on civil society initiatives on Muslims in UP please log on to www.rehnumaa.blogspot.com For Social action, land rights, right to food and hunger issues support Social Development Foundation at www.thesdf.org
