23/07/2008 The National Union of Afghan Journalists has strongly condemned the Pakistani government's recent decision to stop broadcasts of Afghan television channels in the country. According to BBC Monitoring South Asia, the Pakistani government stopped broadcasts of Afghan television channels last week in reaction to Afghan President Karzai's accusations that Pakistan is supporting terrorist groups fighting the Afghan government. The National Union of Afghan Journalists said the Pakistani government's decision is an explicit violation of freedom of expression. In a letter, Abdol Hamid Mobarez, head of Afghanistan's National Journalists Union and press officer of the South Asian Journalists Association in Afghanistan, called on civil society and journalists' unions in Pakistan to pressure the Pakistani government to resume broadcast of Afghan television channels in Pakistan.
