"Mass Media" introduced to A/L syllabus Monday, 11 August 2008 The Ministry of Education has take steps to include "Mass Media" as a subject for the General Certificate of Education (Advance Level) school syllabus. According to the Minister of Education, Susil Premajayantha Government schools will teach Mass Media commencing from next month. The Ministry also expects to obtain support of Embassies for the students to enhance their knowledge of foreign languages, said Minister Premajayantha addressing the Sri Lanka Model United Nations Association (SLMUN) in Colombo today (August 11). The event was organized with the collaboration of the Ministry of Education and held under the theme "An Epic Venture into the Domain of International Diplomacy" at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall. The summit will end on the 13th of this month. Sri Lanka Model United Nations hopes to create awareness among the youth on issues such as education, human rights, and environment and give them an opportunity to voice their views and propose solutions to the problems the world faces at present. Around 1200 delegates from around the world are expected to participate at what would be the 3rd largest student run MUN conference in the world . SLMUN 2008 act as a dialogue forum which paves the way for students, from rural villages in the Island, to students from International schools all around the world, to step into the shoes of ambassadors and experience being a true diplomat. Being faced with global issues such as human rights, environment and education, it will give them the opportunity to voice their opinions, learn from the dialogue forum and propose solutions to address the issues discussed. This will indeed reaffirm the United Nation's effort in transforming this world into a global village and beginning a new chapter in the era of student diplomacy, organizers of the event said.
