First of all, my apologies if my previous mail sounded too
opinionated or imposing. That was not my intention. I was writing on
an impulse and did not reconsider my words...I hope I did not offend
anyone.
I agree with you partly; it is ok to bang heads once in a while...but
somehow the last few head banging did not seem very constructive.
As far as "too much" and "true" politeness is concerned...well I
won't say you are wrong, since I am not here to pass judgements. But
in my humble opinion, politeness, even if it appears "fake"
or "contrived", is preferable to hostility among complete strangers.
I think it is less damaging...and certainly reconciliation, among
strangers, cannot be achieved otherwise. I am only voicing my own
opinions and I hope I don't seem imposing.

As for my own commentary, well I can be too generous with words when
something catches my fancy. I do come off as over enthusiastic at
such moments. I hope to curb this tendency in future so that
the "sugar level" is kept stable.
I like the friendly atmosphere of this group very much, and I
certainly don't want it to change into a hostile battle ground...so
in future I will use the group mail for posting poetry only. I will
refrain from posting comments, whether in the form of praise or
criticism, on the group mail...it is something that can easily be
maintained through personal mails, and a heated personal debate need
not be made public. It only ruins the atmosphere of the whole group...

In the end, I would like to share some funny light verses with all of
you. Funny verses often make me laugh when I am in a bad mood. I hope
they manage to make the atmosphere around here a bit less gloomy. Is
there anyone here who writes light verses? If so it would be very
nice if you shared them with all of us.
Farah.

 THE HEIGHT OF THE RIDICULOUS
 (Oliver Wendell Holmes)

I wrote some lines, once on a time,
In wondrous merry mood
And thought, as usual, men would say
They were exceeding good.

They were so queer, so very queer,
I laughed as I would die;
Albeit, in a general way,
A sober man am I.

I called my servant, and he came;
How kind it was of him
To mind a slender man like me,
He of the mighty limb.

"These to the printer," I exclaimed,
And, in my humorous way,
I added (as a trifling jest),
"There'll be the devil to pay."

He took the paper, and I watched,
And saw him peep within;
At the first line he read, his face
Was all upon the grin.

He read the next; the grin grew broad,
And shot from ear to ear;
He read the third; a chuckling noise
I now began to hear.
The fourth; he broke into a roar;
The fifth; his waistband split;
The sixth; he burst the buttons off,
And tumbled in a fit.

Ten days and nights, with sleepless eyes,
I watched that wretched man,
And since, I never dare to write
As funny as I can.

THE RICH MAN
(Franklin P. Adams)

The rich man has his motorcar,
His country and his town estate.
He smokes a fifty-cent cigar
And jeer at Fate.

He frivols through the livelong day,
He knows not Poverty her pinch.
His lot seems light, his heart seems gay,
He has a cinch.

Yet though my lamp burns low and dim,
Though I must slave for livelihood__
Think you that I would change with him?
You bet I would!

COIN RETURN
(Richard Armour)

Although I try, I cannot spurn
The place on phones marked "Coin Return".
A strange compulsion makes me linger
And test with probing index finger.

Let me but say to those not bound
By such a habit: I have found
That this exploratory itch
Is not a way of getting rich.

"OGDEN NASH" has written all the following funny verses.

THE KITTEN

The problem with a kitten is
THAT
Eventually it becomes a
CAT.

THE DOG

The truth I do not stretch or shove
When I state the dog is full of love.
I've also proved, by actual test,
A wet dog is the lovingest.

THE PIG

The pig, if I am not mistaken,
Supplies us sausage, ham and bacon.
Let others say his heart is big__
I call it stupid of the pig.

THE TERMITE

Some primal termite knocked on wood
And tasted it, and found it good,
And that is why your Cousin May
Fell through the parlor floor today.
