Once key aspect of the project is that the data needs to be available round-the-clock. Since the majority of key information is stored in VSAM files on the mainframe, the impact of 24x7 availability needs to be assessed. Client trading is done primarily with domestic securities. Increased business and economic focus on the international markets has lead Client to look at modifications needed to allow trading to take place in multiple foreign exchanges (presently targeting 43 countries). The first phase of the project looks to make data files and external connections available 24x7, while providing new entry fields and file changes to capture and forward relevant information to the appropriate downstream applications, without jeopardizing the success of existing domestic applications. The current technical environment is IBM mainframe, using CICS and VSAM. Role Description Experienced mainframe programmer-analysts will be taking direction from Client application and domain knowledgeable individuals on the team and will be reviewing the overall mainframe application (batch, online and interfaces) to determine how to make this work seamlessly for users and customers. Writing skills, in addition to the COBOL, CICS, VSAM skills, are going to be essential on this, since they are going to be helping to write the Design specification as well as the Technical specification docs.
