Sorry for the late reply. I have been offline a lot last month, so cleaning out my email log now. Not sure this is the solution we are looking for. In general I would say that if you want to use this to customize the layout of the notebook this is a hack that might have unwanted side effects. Probably cleaner to have a subclass of the file storage class for such things. On the other hand we could make layout more dynamic based on the config file if we identify there is a limited number of variations people might be interested in.
