I think there is really only one issue nobody has been able to sort out:
do we want the objects to be actually stored on the filesystem or do we
want to be able to mirror a ZODB?  Or do we want both?

Careful, that's a religious issue in some circles. :-)  I know of many
people who prefer that data be stored in XML just because humans can
read and change it if the need arises.  (This from a guy who has
actually edited ZODB XML export files. :-) )
