Ya know, I don't think that's the solution this other fella had, because the 
index page still shows the dir structure, but I can probably figure a way 
around that, and your solution is as elegant as it is simple.

Most likely you have a Virtual Host Monster instance, with some
configuration on the Mappings tab.
