hi.
I have the same model as what you got, and I upgraded RAM and HDD without
any problems. Am using a 5GB Seagate without problems, no need for hacks and
so on, and all the other drives I tested (Quantums 1.08GB and smtg other 2GB
and also a Conner 1GB) worked directly with 7.5 and 8.x (not sure which 8 it
was, I'm not actively using the mac, it's more part of a collection).
I use all macs with VGA monitors, as I have a few LCD's at home and no place
for CRTs... got adapters at my local electronics store in my country
(europe, romania) where you cannot be sure to get a Belkin or Apple thing)
and they are noname, but work perfectly (one with, one without DIP
switches). Just make sure the connectors are the right ones, and it will
probably be this converter (they didn't know at the store what the converter
was for, I picked it by the connectors it had).
the only problem I got was when upgrading the CD-Rom, but that is another
story.
have fun and good luck!

The problem with our world is stupidity. I'm not saying there should
be a capital punishment for stupidity, but why don't we just take the
safety labels off of everything and let the problem solve itself?

Hi. I'm Madcrow and I recently got my first Mac in quite some time, a
PowerMac 7100/80 with a video card and an unknown quanity of RAM. I'd like
to be able
use my Samsung SyncMaster 4NE with the computer, but the cable doesn't
fit.
Is there a convereter that will let me use a normal VGA connection or do I
have
to find an old school Apple Monitor somewhere?
Also, I'd love to get a bigger hard drive than the Standard 500MB affair
that
was included. Will a generic SCSI HDD work or do I have to use an
Apple-branded/approved HDD? Ditto for the CD-ROM drive. >>
VGA adapter can be simple or complex.

I'm sure there are other options as well there is a simple (no dip
switches)
adapter that Belkin, Apple and probably others sell that may work and
maybe
less expensive.
And yes a generic SCSI hard will work. You may need an adapter for the
internal 50 pin connection. And depending on what system you are running
and the
drive you want to install you may need a third party utility to format it.
Although Apple's Drive Setup in OS 8.6 or later can be hacked to format
most drives
that are not normally supported.
