When music is put on paper there are two inputs, the MUSICAL input, and the
STYLE input. In the case of abcm2ps, the music comes from an "abc" file
and the style comes from a "fmt" file. I am a purist and I believe that
ABC should not be contaminated with style information such as what font to
use, whether stems should be up or down, and whether to insert cautionary
accidentals or not.
I think that cautionary accidentals are not musically significant. Whether
or not to include them is an editorial decision. However, it seems that
some people here are saying that in some cases cautionary accidentals ARE
musically significant. If that is true, (and not too esoteric) then the
ABC syntax should allow them. However, I think 99% of the time it is
better to let the typesetter decide about cautionary accidentals, and not
"hard-code" them in the ABC file.
