My attempt to rephrase Richard's argument falters because I have not yet understood his use of the term 'complexity'. I'd prefer a rigorous definition but will settle for a better general understanding of what he means. Despite his several attempts to describe his meaning I have not been able yet to successfully grasp exactly what counts as complex and what does not, and for things inbetween, how to judge the "degree" of complexity.
