VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY: National LP Credentials Committee
---------------------------------------------------------

Volunteer to become a National LP Credentials Committee Member!

This position serves the Libertarian Party by preparing and facilitating the
credentialing of delegates to the biennial National LP Convention:

        http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2016_Libertarian_National_Convention

The convention will be held May 26-30, 2016, in Orlando, FL.). There are 10
people on the credentials committee; five are appointed by the LNC and 5 are
appointed by the top five states in membership as of 12/31/2015. While our
position may change between now and December 31, for the moment the Virginia LP
is the 5th largest state party, and thus we can name a delegate to the
Credentials Committee (note: the LNC's appointments have already been made).

INDIVIDUALS SERVING ON THIS COMMITTEE ARE EXPECTED TO ATTEND THE 2016
CONVENTION BEING HELD May 26-30, 2016, in Orlando, FL.

The Credentials Committee is currently working to develop an updated and
streamlined credentialing process for the 2016 convention, creating an
excellent opportunity for an appointee to hit the ground running and
collaborate with colleagues from across the nation. Additionally, the
Credentials Committee works with all the states to ensure that a full, accurate
list of delegates is submitted by each state starting in January 2016 and
leading up to the national convention. Usually a committee member is assigned
to work closely with 5 states to help them fulfill their reporting
requirements. Once the convention starts, Credentials Committee members take
shifts working at the credentials desk to facilitate the check-in and out of
delegates in order to provide accurate counts for voting and other functions.

VOLUNTEER QUALIFICATIONS
------------------------

ARTICLE 11 (Conventions), Section 7, of the Libertarian Party Bylaws (see
https://www.lp.org/bylaws ) list the requirements for the Credentials Committee
as follows: "c. The Credentials Committee, composed of ten members, shall be
selected as follows: Five members chosen by the National Committee; [and] one
member by each of the five affiliate parties having the largest sustaining
memberships as determined for Convention delegate allocations. These shall be
selected by each of the affiliate parties no later than one month prior to the
Regular Convention. ... d. Ranked alternates may be named by the appointing
bodies to fill any vacancies or absences in the Convention Committees."

Note that while the Bylaws and Rules & Platform Committee members must be Party
members, there is no specific requirement that Credentials Committee appointees
be Party members. However, your chances of being selected are a lot higher if
you are a dues-paid member (e.g., a $25 or more donor) of *both* LPVA and the
national LP.

While none of the below are listed in the Bylaws as requirements for
Credentials Committee applicants, the following skills/attributes would be most
helpful:

- Possess a computer with internet service
- Attention to detail
- Excellent communication skills
- Professional attitude, honesty, and lack of bias under pressure
- Ability to learn complex systems
- Familiarity with MS Office, particularly Excel
- Reliable Internet access (regular email correspondence will be required)
- Familiarity with (or the ability to learn) MS Access
- Previous convention credentialing experience

If you are interested in being considered for the Virginia seat on the
Credentials Committee, please email a letter of interest and statement of
qualifications to the LPVA Secretary, Marc Montoni, at secret...@lpva.com by
Wednesday, April 22, 2015, or click:
<mailto:secret...@lpva.com?Subject=Credentials_Committee>. Your application
will be forwarded to the rest of the LPVA state committee, and we will pick
from among them the following Saturday at the LPVA state central committee
meeting.

---------------------------------

As of right now, Virginia ranks 5th in national LP membership! Yes, there is a
chance we will be bumped down to 6th place between now and the 12/31/2015
apportionment deadline. However, on the chance that Virginia will remain in
the top five, and thus qualify to appoint a Credentials Committee member, we
intend to make an appointment right away. The state appointees don't need to
be filed until one month prior to the opening of the 2016 national convention,
or April 26, 2016. Until we find out otherwise, we are assuming Virginia will
retain one of the Credentials spots as of the 12/31/2015 cutoff.

If you are interested in being considered for our Credentials Committee seat,
please email a letter of interest and statement of qualifications to the LPVA
Secretary, Marc Montoni, at <secret...@lpva.com>, or click:
