The OpenOffice.orgĀ® Community is pleased to announce the addition of Japanese language support to its Users' Community Forum. This web-based Community Forum brings experts and users together to provide support to users of OpenOffice.org, the free alternative to Microsoft Office. The Forum is free to users and is free of advertisements.
Since its launch six months ago, the Forum has greatly exceeded expectations, attracting a registered membership of nearly 13,000. Together, these members have generated a growing knowledge base of 90,000 postings. These include both answers to specific user questions, and user generated tutorials. Originally launched in English, the Forum added support for Hungarian in February, French in March, and now Japanese in June. Further languages are expected during the rest of 2008. Drew Jensen, one of the Forum administrators, explained the appeal of the Forum: "The reality is that most day to day IT support is provided by friends or colleagues. If you've a problem with a spreadsheet, you talk to Amrita in Accounts who's the in-house expert. The OpenOffice.org Users' Community Forum covers the globe, and brings together experts and novices to provide a level of quality support that money literally can't buy. People appreciate that the Community has given them this world class software for free. Helping others via the Forum is one way to give something back." Nakata, Maho, the Japanese Native-Language Project Lead, welcomed the news: "I am very pleased with this announcement. I encourage all Japanese speaking Community members to become involved with the Forum so it becomes an essential resource for our Native Language Community". All OpenOffice.org users are invited take advantage of what the Forum has to offer: * search the knowledge base * browse the forum categories which are conveniently arranged by application and task * ask questions, or help by answering questions posted by other users.
