OO.o: Best of open source productivity apps (InfoWorld)
=======================================================
OpenOffice.org is the granddaddy of Microsoft Office alternatives. Its
open source roots show in a set of features and functionality that is
perfectly at home in the multiplatform, equation-heavy atmosphere of
research and academe. For businesses, the only features that seem
significantly lacking are those for collaborating with multiple authors.
If you're looking for a single set of productivity apps that can work on
a wide variety of operating systems, then OpenOffice.org is a
well-supported, mature solution.

OO.o on Tom's Guide [David Bénard]
===================================
"We’ve talked up OpenOffice before in other articles, but the software
is worth a closer look since more and more companies are beginning to
dole it out to employees. OpenOffice is much more than a simple
alternative to Microsoft Office microsoft office . "

Get an office suite, free [Martin James, ComputerActive]
=========================
For years Microsoft Word has been the tool that many of us reach for
when we want to write a letter. Similarly, think about creating a
spreadsheet and Excel springs immediately to mind. But if you don’t
already own a copy of Microsoft Office you could be in for a nasty
surprise when you see how much it costs.

=====================================================================

Office and are concerned about their Office documents on Linux..."

A little different and very good

A False Sense of Security
=========================
When one thinks about signing, I dare to say, many only think about the
integrity aspect. That is, a digital signature prevents tampering around
with the data without being unnoticed. For example, during installation
of some signed software the system could report that the signature is
broken. The reasons could be that the data got garbled during
transmission, for example while downloading, or that someone modified it.

"The ISO and IEC have announced that the four appeals against the
controversial standardisation process for Office Open XML, OOXML, will
not progress any further. The International Standards Organisation and

two-thirds majorities in the respective management bodies - the ISO's
Technical Management Board (TMB) and the IEC's Standardisation

Microsoft's OOXML Wins ISO Approval
===================================
"It looks as if Microsoft's OOXML office document file format will be
published as an open standard after all. The International Standards
Organization (ISO) today rejected four appeals from subsidiary national
standards bodies that claimed ballot irregularities during the
standardization process. Had these appeals been upheld, an OOXML
standard could have been delayed indefinitely, despite Microsoft's best
efforts to fast-track the process...."
