Hello,

This is a simplified, step-by-step guide for
installing BackupPC, and configuring the correct
userIDs and permissions necessary to run the BackupPC
CGI admin tool on SuSE Linux 10.0 with Apache2. One
other significant topic covered is the use of
mod_suexec and virtual hosts in place of using sperl
with setuid. This appears to be the easiest way to do
it in SuSE.

I initially had lots of trouble getting BackupPC_Admin
to work on SuSE as Apache seems to block setuid on CGI
scripts. And since SuSE does not like httpd to be run
as anything other than user wwwrun, it is difficult to
use the mod_perl option.

I then ran across mod_suexec. This is an Apache module
that does what sperl and setuid do without the hassle
and apparent security risks.

So, I put together a good "how-to" that will be useful
to SuSE users who just want to get up and running
quickly. It even includes sample virtual host
configuration files to allow a single Apache instance
to serve BackupPC through CGI without disrupting
existing web apps.

I hope parts of this document will be helpful to all
Linux users. However, it was specifically tested for
SuSE 10.0 or OpenSuSE 10.0 using Apache2.

See attached file. (Hopfully the file attachment will
post to the fourm. If not, I will follow up with
another format.)
