The Guardian did use the term in his summary of some of the Works of Baha'u'llah:  
"... The Kitab-i-Badi', His apologia, written to refute the accusations levelled 
against Him by Mirza Mihdiy-i-Rashti, corresponding to the Kitab-i-Iqan, revealed in 
defense of the Babi Revelation ..."  (God Passes By, p. 172)

He also refers to "the learned apologist Mirza Abu'l-Fadl" in the same book on p. 195, 
and on p. 110 of the edition I have of The Promised Day is come, he uses the phrase 
"... which its teachers proclaim, which its apologists defend..."
