We were informed last night that the Hick'ry Pit has established a

Too often the servers take that as their queue to provide less-than-optimal service since they get the same tip no matter how well they do their work.

I just hope that's not the case for you guys!

My problem's always been that you can't argue your way out of paying what you deem an unfair amount. I've tried it for years when I've had bad service, yet still been forced to pay a "tip for good service," which is what a tip is supposed to be. And it really irks me when the restaurant clearly states that their automatic charge is for parties of X or more, yet they still charge you when there are X-1 (and once X-2) in your party!

The sad part is that for really good service I usually tip better than the "automatic service charge," but the server misses out since the restaurant didn't leave the decision about the amount of the tip up to me. If the restaurant decides what the tip is, then that's all they get from me.
