To All, I must bid you all adieu. I am heartened to learn that more and more people are recognizing that Steiner was much more than "biodynamics" and are incorporating much of what he did into their farming routines. I am positive that if he were here right now, he would be heartened too by this progress.
Much, of course, remains to be done. Even with the homeopathic sequential sprays, where we are now is more like the first flight of the Wright brothers. For myself, I guess I was wrong about the bdnow forum. I think I can make better use of my time in other ways. On the one hand, much of the time I'm preaching to the choir. On the other, it is clear that there are still members just waiting to attack whenever they perceive an opening. That's okay. I believe in free speach. But I also believe in the Truth and facts. Like Jack Parr once said when he left the Tonight show, "I've said everything I ever wanted to say - twice." My books will be out shortly and I want to focus on crops other than winegrape vines, which I've mastered. There's lots of work to do with soybeans, corn and rice and we have projects starting in several states. As we have done with winegrapes, I expect that we'll see significant increases in yield and quality, a lowering of costs and better control of diseases and insects with these crops. The methods and products we developed for viticulture apply to every crop. The reception to our ideas from real farmers in the Heartland has been very encouraging. They really need help and the ability to become independent from the chemical/seed companies and bankers. For me, it provides new and interesting challenges and a chance to meet new people. I look forward to leaving California and moving away from this chemical sewer called Napa Valley. According to the California Department of Pesticide Regulation, Napa County has one of the highest "pounds per acre" application rate of poisons in all of California. The chemicals are eating away at the quality of Napa Valley wine which is no longer as good as it once was. There are no salmon or steelhead trout in the Napa River or its tributaries. 80% of the birds and bats have disappeared. The canary in the mine has died. The traffic is impossible. Wineries in other counties are now getting more gold medals than Napa. Maybe someday they'll learn. I've done all I can.
