Please please leave the temperament issues and the shedding big time in the pet store leaflet, hide it half way down if need be BUT it will put off impulse buyers of that cute puppy, and ensure only someone who is okay with these issues buys the pup. I would like these issues to be talked about more within the breed as temperament is in the Newfoundland club info and on many breeder sites (they stress the puppy is very hard work). Someone who buys a temperamental shedding machine without expecting it is more likely to face problems than one who expects it. The goal is for the pet store pups to go to loving lifelong homes, not to end up as rescues after a year, when they are too big, too difficult and shed too much (worst case scenario)
Only after we got our berner did we find out that hair is a permanent decoration of our floors and walls and and and....In our research we had thought they shed twice a year (as opposed to the realistic they shed, more sometimes than others, but basically all the time). Many PPOs do not want a dog that sheds this much, they should therefore be able to find this out before they buy, so they will buy a different breed.
If you need help to reorganize info so the pet stores will pass it out, but it keeps the rest in let me know, I am willing to help out (I write pr and text books normally)
kind regards Emma and Tatty (but my hair is so soft, it makes nice throw rugs) in France
