Can somebody help ? ,
I have an nec versa laptop v/50 (486dx2)
attached to my
external cdrom and external jaz 2gb via pcmcia panasonic scsi/sound card.
Problems:-
1)installing grub on a floppy disk.
a)Using windows/95 I ftp'd grub's last version from utah.edu back in
August
and recently your cvs gnu grub gz version.
b)Current working directory "c:\boot\" and in this directory i used
winzip7 to
decompress the relevant grub package/s into it's prest dir/s.
c)I followed the dos/win instructions to "copy /b stage1 + stage2 grub.raw
d)There was no sage1 or stage2 file/s to "copy /b" only folders to use ???
e)I used a linux 5.2 version rawrite with grub.raw to my floppy disk .
f) When i reboot this floppy disk it hangs with a visible prompt.
g)I only have windows/95 on the 325 meg only hardrive.
h)the system let the disk boot then hangs.
I)Was i meant to compile something first?
J)there is no manual to check if so.
k)The instructions were only 2 lines in readme reference.
l)Could someone outline what to do.
2/
a)I have a cd copy of redhat linux from apcmag/pocketbook
which i cant use as i cant't a linux driver for my scsi/sound card
a panasonic Kxl-d20 multimedia pcmcia scsi/soundcard which
was designed for a panasonic Kxl-d720 cdrom drive but i use a
nec multispin 6xe cdrom drive with the same drivers ok with my
windows/95 or dos aspi drivers.
I have heard that the Kxl-d720 cdrom is supported so perhaps my
pcmcia scsci adapter the Kxl-d20 scsi-side will work with a linux
or gnu/hurd/linux driver.The win95 miniport drivers are qlmini.mpd
which means they are qlogic chipsets in my scsi/sound adapter.
I checked all the linux howto's etc ...
3/.I also have a usable copy of doslinux i can reinstall under my
windows fat16 partition(only current partition-c:) which will let
me use a compiler if needed yet ???
4)I need som data/info related to backround on partitioning a jaz 2bg
disk into a dos /win / gnu/hurd/linux (three partitions) because of my
limited disk space on my hdd on this laptop i'm using (325 meg hdd)
because i want to use gnu grub to boot such partitions maybe ???
Thanks (in advance)
