Yes, everything tested as root.
Did you ever get any resolution on this? My experience has been that there is usually a driver for Windows with a device, so that "works with Windows" often includes some driver supplied fixes to hardware or firmware which don't match any published standard.

I assume you were running the latest firmware in the drive.
